CPC Training courses
Introduction
CPC Driver Periodic Training - part of the new Driver CPC Certificate of Professional Competence will effect all professional drivers of lorries and vans over 3.5tonnes (C, C1, C&E, C1&E) license holders from 10th September 2009 and all professional coach and bus drivers (D, D1, D&E, D1&E) from 10th September 2008.
What is Driver CPC?
Driver CPC is being introduced across the European Union to maintain high driving standards and improve road safety. All professional lorry and coach drivers must hold a driver CPC if they want to drive for a living.
There will be a range of approved courses available and your training can be tailored to suit your individual needs to help you become an even better driver. The training is grouped under three heading:
1.Safe and fuel efficient driving (this may include vehicle
loading, fuel consumption and pollution).
2.Legal requirements (rules for tachograph, drivers hours).
3.Health and safety, service and logistics (including first aid,
passenger safety, customer service).
Only courses approved on their behalf of the DVA/DSA and delivered by accredited training organisations will count towards your 'periodic training' which will enable you to obtain your driver CPC qualification and DRIVERS CARD.
How will it affect me?
All drivers will need to complete a minimum of 35 hours of periodic training within every five year period. The training will require attendance at courses ideally 7 hours per year over the 5 year period and no exams are required at the end of the course. To keep your Driver CPC and to continue to drive professionally you will need to undertake regular periodic training.
